Major Network Incident

HD395964  update 2

Hello,

Just to provide some clarification on the situation on the Shetland Island incident now that additional details have become a little clearer, it has been confirmed that it is not related to any planned works as previous advised.

The cable has been damaged by a third-party and is impacting all services to the islands, Ethernet, OSEA, TV and fibre services are affected with impacts on copper.

Restoration work continues, with engineers on site. Service has been restored to some mobile cell sites, which has improved mobile coverage, however, until fully restored, both capacity and coverage will remain an issue.

Engineers are still working to divert services via other routes and looking to restore the link as soon as possible and we are still awaiting the Emergency Response Team vehicle that needs to be shipped from the mainland. Landlines continue to be largely unaffected.

As you can appreciate, this is likely to be a challenging and complex recovery and we're not currently able to give a full timeline for restoration.

We'll issue a further update as the recovery progresses.

Thanks,

Michael Gauterin
